'Artists' aren't using just rail cars as their canvas

Never too old to have a happy childhood!
Damaging aircraft is a federal offence. The perps will not be happy if the FBI nabs them.

Interesting, the gravity with which the news addresses the "crime"!
Of course, this would have to do with the target being "multi-million-dollar corporate jets," all three of them. And there is solicitude for "damage to the exterior paint of the planes" I have never seen expressed for the paint jobs of the millions of dollars in railroad and lessor property similarly defaced.
Shouldn't we be admiring this sharing of artistic talent with the us, and applauding the free spririts who took the time out of their busy, artistic lifestyles to share it with the masses? I mean, I've seen whole books dedicated to the "art" of railcar and urban graffiti. Isn't it wonderful that the "artists" have decided to share some of their work with the very wealthy, instead of simply limiting it to the working class?
Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.
... but the security theater continues in the terminal.

There was a car dealership around here not too long ago that had its cars "artistically enhanced" by some vandals. The dealership owner was interviewed on TV and seemed quite upset about it and not at all in tune with the free spirit expression thing.

As I have remarked before, these people have no idea that other peoples' property is not theirs and so is not to be marked as they see fit.

The best punishment would be to sentence the perpetrator to repair the damage, whatever that may entail. I do not mean pay for it. I mean actually repair it. Perhaps a day working in the body shop, RR paint shop, aircraft refinishing facility, etc would give them a better perspective. A picture in the news engaged in the repair would be a good incentive, too.

True! Grinding hard work for no pay would be a more suitable punishment.
Sorry guys, work has been declared a cruel and unusual punishment. I wonder what "crime" I committed?
Reminds me of when I was aboard the U.S.S. Guam and on watch in the fire room. Marines being punished would have to come down and work out in the heat. One said to me, "What did you guys do to be down here all the time?"
I had a disagreement in college with a girl who said that graffiti was artwork. I asked her, "If you went outside and saw that your car was covered in it, would that be artwork?" She had nothing to say.

Edited to provide the verb "thought."
Would you want to fly in an airplane that had been repaired by a "graffiti artist"?

And how! So much for airport security.

Van Nuys (KVNY) is a general aviation airport without scheduled airline service. Security there will be less than at a carrier airport, and even at the latter the main security is in the terminal and boarding areas. TSA does not patrol the airports (thankfully). That is left to local or airport authority police.
Phoebe VetDid you think that a paint repair would effect the airworthiness? Surely you are aware that finished repairs must be signed off by a licensed mechanic in the aircraft log.
Much more to be considered in painting an aircraft than simply schlepping on a coat of paint.
I am well aware of that, having been responsible for a small fleet until I retired.

OK, I stand corrected. Not familiar with Van Nuys although I have heard of it.
Having spent some time in a couple of airports recently;
The anacronym TSA seems to either mean "Those Standing Around", or in one case "Thousands Standing Around"....

"Too Stupid for Arby's" also comes to mind.
