Way too low and an insult.

Maybe not if Harrison can shape them up. Even if a merger ultimately doesn't happen, having him run things for awhile might not be such a bad thing.

Perhaps. If the stock holders can be conned into attacking the NS board, than the current offer really won't matter.

Harrison is Ackman's puppet and mouthpiece.

Surely it's the other way around, with Ackman, who wouldn't know how to read a waybill, taking a ride on Harrison's expertise.

Ackman speaks money - money makes puppets dance and talk!

Ackman's hedge fund business is takeing a big hit and is in the red this year.

Sure, but it would be like Harrison to seek new worlds to conquer. Say that Ackman and EHH make each other possible.

I've just come home from my favorite local restaurant (Frank's West, Henrico Va. Yelp it!), got a stomach full of Mussels a'la Frank, veal parmigiana, and a half-carafe of the house red, and I feel GOOOOOOD!

So, let me add my thoughts about this proposed CP-NS merger.

Too hell with Ackman, to hell with EHH, to hell with Wall Street and the other assorted vultures.  Norfolk-Southern exists to support Mighty 611 and all the other great ladies of the steam program, both present and future debutantes.

If the merger goes though and the steam program goes down what's left of NS will be nothing but a soulless conveyor belt of look-alike diesels pulling consists of rustbucket freight cars of various iterations.  No panache, no drama,no tradition, no color, no nothin'.  Nothin' but dead steel and diesel fumes.

I'll still be a railfan but I'll have to work to enjoy it.

There! I've said it and I'm glad!  Call me nuts if you like, that's something I already know!

And if I've raised a giggle or a snicker from some or all of you, then I consider my work well done.

That's all.

You know, Mr. Firelock, come to think of it, couldn't EHH at least give 2816 back to Steamtown where at least it could be used? He doesn't even have time for that - he has to kill the program, lock the locomotive away and throw away the key so nobody ever sees what he thinks is a useless old hunk of junk again.

Ahhhhh, a kindred spirit! Mr. Kgbw49 what you say makes perfect sense.

Reminds me of a letter President Lincoln sent to General McClellan when he sat idle with the Army Of The Potomac for months, not doing anything.  "General, if you're not going to use the army do you mind if I borrow it for a while?"

2816 to pull trains up the hill, splitting that duty with 3713 when ready, and CNR 97 restored as CNJ 225 for the yard trips. That would be a lineup that would draw some attention!

As an NS stockholder, I am torn.  I woudn't mind a shot in the bottom line, but not at the cost of NS's soul.  I invested in NS because I wanted to support their ability to make a profit and still have a steam program.  The preponderance of sentiment is EHH doesn't have time or money for a soul.  That is a price I'm not willing to pay.
