CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? Two Unlucky UP Sequential SD70ACe’s!

The watery wreck of UP 8743:

The flood incident the other day with UP 8742:

Anybody want to bet UP 8741 is the next unit to go swimming?

Surprised an almost brand new SD70ACe was retired instead of repaired.

Was she really parted out and cut up? Or was she sold off, perhaps traded back to EMD, and rebuilt?

Record deleted from UMLER (Universal Machine Language Equipment Register) on 7/27/15.

With all the electronics on todays locomotive and electronics aversion to operating properly after being subjected to water damage......

I can only assume UP shop & finance people did a full and complete inspection before writing the engine off the books.

Yeah, no doubt that she'd of needed an extensive refurbishing. Not just all the electronics, but every moving part like bearings would have to be gone through, the cab insulation would need replacement, etc.

But typically you'd see such a young locomotive repaired as long as the frame survived (Which appears to have been the case).

Does that record deletion just refer to UP? If not, I'm still curious if this cast-off was salvaged by an outside party like EMD themselves.

Either way, strange coincidence. Not much of a chance for her sister enjoying a different fate, judging by pictures.

Early SD40’s UP 3118 and 3119, sequential units also, suffered a similar fate.
