After reading the NEW&PHOTOS article titled 'Desert Line' revival on the horizon? I decided to look at the route on Google and came across the Goal Canyon Trestle. What an exciting find. It is said to be the world's largest wooden railroad trestle. I found a site which shows many pictures of a hike to the location. This trestel is on the Pacific Imperial Railroad but out of service at this time. Very rugged country in southern California.

Looking on Google, that looks like the last place I want to go to. Beautiful in its way but unhospitable in the extreme. I would expect to see cattle skulls but even they wouldn't get that far. No buzards nor condors as there were not enough fools to feed on. Thanks for the photos and glad you saw and returned.
The current operators of the Desert line most likely will never run a railroad. Over the last year or so the San Diego Union Tribune UT newspaper have run a series of articles about these people. The only positive is that they have caught up on the twice a year payments to San Diego. They are believed to be crooks from Nevada with a history of bad deals. Will try to find some links to some of this news. The water temperature of the ocean off San Diego is as of today 80 degrees. The ocean water never gets this warm in southern california. Some people say this warm water could allow a hurricane to com near San Diego. A tropical storm in 1976 closed the line for years and Southern Pacific sold the line to the MTS. If another storm hit it could free up federal dollars for the repair and improvements that would be needed.
