More C&NW track being brought back to life
Posted by CMStPnP on Friday, May 29, 2015 9:34 AM

So my Sister was apartment shopping in Plymouth, WI a few weeks ago and passed onto me that Wisconsin and Southern is busy at work reactivating the former C&NW line from Plymouth, WI into Sheboygan, WI.    I think this is a good idea as it would make Sheboygan a two railroad town and hopefully lead to competition on rates.    Also I see on youtube that WSOR is storing Wisconsin Electric Coal Train cars on it's Plymouth line......which is strange they would haul them that far North instead of storing them in Milwaukee (CP has plenty of space and I thought WSOR had an agreement with them for using the Milwaukee to Duplainville mainline as well as yard space in Milwaukee) or Butler (UPRR, space might be tight there) but what do I know about RR operations.

Anyone have any pictures of the Plymouth to Sheboygan line reconstruction underway?

Interesting and I wonder what UP thinks now that a line it formerly abandoned is being brought back to life.    I know Bemis, large plastic injection moulding operation that makes consumer products like toilet seats, exhaust fans, etc so possibly it will be hopper cars of plastic pellets for it.    I have not heard of the fertilizer company.    I would hope WSOR gets it's wish to operate into Sheboygan......perhaps it can take over the abandoned Sheboygan to Manitowoc line next.     Find it hard that a former ship building city like Manitowoc does not have enough traffic to support rail service.    Was shocked that city had it's C&NW Southern access pulled up.

Wisconsin DOT rail map shows CN has a line to Manitowoc from the west.  Isn't it still running?

The CN still comes into Manitowoc from the west and the CN has a yard there.  However the former C&NW line south of Manitowoc now ends a few miles south of town, in the vicinity of Newton, well before it gets anywhere near Sheboygan.  I gather the rest is being groomed for a trail.   The rails and ties are pulled up.
