CN bridge burns in northern Minnesota
Posted by petitnj on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 3:54 PM

A bridge across the Rat Root River south of International Falls/Ranier, MN has burned. A southbound train partially crossed the buring bridge and stopped before the bridge collapsed. Here is a link to the newspaper article. Here is a link to the Google Maps location. Very suspicious. It has been raining off and on in northern MN for the past week.

With some of the NIMBY complaints about traffic on this line, I wonder if this is more than just the act of some braindead teenager and instead was a form of sabotage.

Glad the engine crew got through safe and that it hasn't had more severe consequences.

Anyone know what reroutes will occur because of this?

There was a west bound double stack on the CP River sub already today.

If the train had kept going it might have made it all across the bridge. The bridge didn't collapse for two hours after it stopped. Apparently the fire severed the brake pipe or something because the engineer said he couldn't get started again after stopping. Hindsight is 20-20.
