All:
My wife and I watched the TV show "Elementary" last night. It featured Sherlock and a friend find the body of the friends sister, who had apparently overdosed or drugs.
The setting was a rail spur with a running track (main?) track to the right of this spur. The spur had an end of track with two ties in an "X" shape. A sign with the number "9" on a post on near the running track. The spur had a platform which may have been a passenger stop or team track location. Both the spur and the running track ran through a short tunnel that had an overhead vehicular bridge on it.
Can anyone help me with the location and railroad ownership, current or historical?

On-line info says most of the show is shot in and around NYC, and on a sound stage on Long Island. I don't know NYC, but the description could be almost anywhere.

The Lion may know.
From the descriptionj of both the siding and the running track going through the tunnel, I suspect the scene was on the old Montauk Division freigiht rout from Jamaica through Fresh Pond Junction to Long Island City, which until a few years ago still had one through diesel Oyster Bay LI City rush hour train each way, but now is freight-only, used by the New York and Atlantic. The platform might have been for the Penny Bridge station, and the spur was a passing track, with switches at both ends. The LIRR removed one switch, because the passing track was no longer needed, and the hardware could be used elsewhere. A 1990 year timetable may still show the passenger service.
I rode the electrified main line of the LIRR to Jamacia probably over 100 times, but rode the LI City - Oyster Bay train once. I believe signals have been deactivated on the line, and it is operated by warrent, usually just one train on the line at a time.
Actually, I believe the location is at "East New York" on the former New Haven Bay Ridge Branch. I worked this territory from 1976 to 1983 for Conrail. There used to be 3 tracks in the tunnel. As I remember one was removed and the other was cut west of the tunnel with the remaining track running all the way to the float bridges at Bay Ridge. It is now operated by the freight carrier which also operates the freight service on the LI RR. The "9" sign is mile post 9 measured from Bay Ridge.
