Looks like the tie went to the train.....
Even when you tie, the train wins by default.
Can't imagine what that crew had to been thinking, seeing that thing headed towards them, knowing a huge fireball was imminent.....
Why do people insist on being a moron??? It would take you less than 5 minutes to wait for the train, so just sit back and enjoy your little break.... It won't take that long, and you will get there in one piece instead of several (or not at all....).
(Of course, this is assuming he was trying to beat the train. If it's a case of not paying attention, that's flat out no excuse. He was driving a loaded weapon, packing a huge hit when it explodes... No excuse could change that fact.)

But officer no one closes a RR crossing at 2:00 AM. If I survive that is what I'll testify.

You shoulda'. It would make them stop a little farter back.

I do not remember just what year it was--back about '63 or '64, a man celebrated getting into the second primary election by making a new crossing of the IC in Wesson, Mississippi--and started across just as an IC freight came down the line. At the time, Mississippi was essentially a dry state, but he had known where to find a bootlegger. I also do not remember how he fared in the following election.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.
I don't have a leg to stand on.
Johnny. I remember hearing that when Mississippi became a wet state, in the '70's, I think, there were general complaints that liquor was harder to come by.

Brother Schmitt, that's an interesting coincidence - but not of any statistical value.
I believe there's a similar correlation between homes heated with Anthracite coal and expenditure of 5 inch/38 semifixed ammunition by the US Navy.

The site it is from is called "Spurious Correlations" It has many pages of statical coincidences. They are complete nonsence, but there are a few that at first glance appear plausible.
About the site:
"Hi, I'm Tyler Vigen!
I created this website as a fun way to look at correlations and to think about data. Empirical research is interesting, and I love to wonder about how variables work together. The charts on this site aren't meant to imply causation nor are they meant to create a distrust for research or even correlative data. Rather, I hope this project fosters interest in statistics and numerical research. I'm not a math or statistics major (and there are better ways to calculate correlation than I do here), but I do have a love for science and discovery and that's all anyone should need. Presently I am working on my J.D. at Harvard Law School. Why do you only show stats from the US? When I wrote the code, I just grabbed a bunch of readily exportable statistics from the US Census and the CDC. Adding international stats (maybe ones that don't involve death rates) is on my to-do list. Unfortunately, translating everything is not within my skillset. (Although many of the charts have been translated into Russian already.) If you'd like to hear about future projects, the best way is to receive an email right when they're completed. I'll also post them on Twitter (@TylerVigen) and Facebook (facebook.com/tylerjvigen). If you have questions, comments, or inquiries shoot me an email: public@tylervigen.com."

Crazy correlation. On PBS a few days ago the subject was math relationships. PI ( the irrational number not on my keyboard ) has many non obvious uses. One mentioned is that the total distance of a river divided by its air miles is close to PI. That statement this poster found hard to believe.
Serves to reinforce the old expression that figures don't lie but Liars use figures.
As Disraeli famously said: "There's lies, danged lies, and statistics..."
