Geographical revision of the BNSF name.
Posted by Andrew Falconer on Friday, March 6, 2015 11:23 PM

There has been a discussion going on about what to rename BNSF.

A geographical revision of the BNSF name can be done to explain the railway's reach.

Burlington Nebraska Seattle Flagstaff

That way people can still shorten it to Burlington and the BNSF reporting marks can stay on all the locos and cars.

Recall when the Burlington Northern, & Santa Fe Railroad became simply BNSF?

according to the Wikipedia entry [usual disclaimers][snip]FTL "...The creation of BNSF started with the formation of a holding company, the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation on September 22, 1995. This new holding company then purchased the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (often called the "Santa Fe") and Burlington Northern Railroad, and formally merged the railways into the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway on December 31, 1996. On January 24, 2005, the railroad's name was officially changed to "BNSF Railway," using the initials of its original name..."[snipped]

At the BNSF website they have this linked site @  http://www.bnsf.com/about-bnsf/our-railroad/

FTL:"...Today's BNSF Railway is the product of nearly 400 different railroad lines that merged or were acquired over the course of 160 years..."

As noted: THe BNSF RR is the property of Berkshire-Hathaway and therefore its major Stockholder, who has the choice to call 'His railroad' anything he wants to. Mischief

A really forward thinking name would be BNNSSF (Burlington Northern Norfolk Southern Santa Fe).

Let’s see, based on Andrew Falconer’s original concept … Burlington Nebraska Norfolk Savanna, Seattle, Flagstaff (or Fresno) Railroad.

Oh, that is simple, Bruce!  After the merger with UP, CSX will be known as XCS … But, that is a bit off topic, isn’t it (but funny)?

CSX could become Chessie System again... words instead of letters are so much better. Why not make full use of language?

"The Burlington" would sound much better in news stories and traffic reports on the radio and television than BNSF.
