Posted by caboose63 on Friday, January 30, 2015 3:33 PM

Does anyone live close by the arkansas shortline Doniphan, Kennett & Searcy Railway (UP) that can tell me anything about the UP branch which serves doniphan and kensett. What businesses are served by the Union Pacific on its DK&S?

Where to begin?

First: I believe the Title should be Doniphan(Ar),Kensett(Ar) &  Searcy (Ar). Which is the correct locations of communities served by the DK&S RR.

There are towns in Missouri named Doniphan(in Ripley County), and Kennett (in Dunklin County). Was a Branch line on the MoP RR. SLSF Property was abandoned in 1998 by BNR.  They are not on the railroad in question The DK&S.

Apparently, the Railroad in question; is the Doniphan(Ar) Kensett (Ar) & Searcy(Ar) Railroad. Or the DK&SRR. It was originally the Kensett & Searcy RR.  See link @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kensett,_Arkansas

The track in the area od Searcy, Ark come to the Union Pacific with the merger of the MoPac ( which has purchased the StLIM&S- The St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern) in 1917..It ran from St.Louis to Texarkana, Ar. See link @  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Louis,_Iron_Mountain_and_Southern_Railway

Kensett was on the now defunct M&NA RR that ran from Joplin,Mo(KCS trackage rights)/ to Neosho, Mo to Helena, Ark ( on the Mississippi R.).

Mr Caboose, I believe there are two customers on te remainder of this line. A lumber distributor and a packaging manufacturer. Mainly see flats of lumber and covered hoppers for the package Mfg.
