The linked news story’s PHOTO “from Pacific Imperial Railroad” strikes me as having fraud written all over it!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- K.P.’s absolute “theorem” from early, early childhood that he has seen over and over and over again: Those that CAUSE a problem in the first place will act the most violently if questioned or exposed.

Really, KP?  What were your first ten clues?

Just read else where that PIRR filed Chap 11 bankruptcy.  Evidently various law suits etc and is a general mess.  Evidently at least a week ago ?

"Transit officials point to the recent sublease with Baja Rail as the reason the current lease will remain intact. The Mexican company, according to the statement, has plans to purchase the master lease from Pacific Imperial Railroad."

Were there EVER any revenue runs after they worked on rehabilitating tunnels, etc. 10 or 12 years ago, or was that work never actually completed?

If you go to YouTube.com and search for 'Pacific Imperial RR'.

There seem to be a number of more [ recent videos/'dated' in the last 4 years] of 'current traffic' on the PIRR.  Of Course, the dates reflected the 'posting dates', and not the dates(?) of actual photography.

The only thing I recall was sand shipments from the Coyote Wells sidings to Campo, where said sand was transloaded to trucks (that the locals were complaining about) driving up Buckman Springs Road to get to I-8.  That could have been anywhere from five to ten years ago (clearly more than three weeks ago, as the recollection is fuzzy to me).  Pretty much all of the Ag and wallboard rail business in the Imperial Valley has gone through Niland the last fifty years or so, from what I understand.

I dunno. I kind of like their paint scheme.  Maybe Union Pacific should try something like that on their locomotives.

Thanks to Chris / CopCarSS for my avatar.

Who said the days of the "Robber Barons' and flim-flam financiers is dead?

Never too old to have a happy childhood!
