My morning photos
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 10:45 AM
Caught two trains this AM between 7am-8am, just sharing for fun, I know my photo skills are not professional by any means but here they are. These were taken on the BNSF mainline North of Sioux Center, IA. It was a morning of old locos passing through

First train:

This maroon engine is a very rare sight for me (what is the name of this?) :

Second train:

The Maroon engine you saw belongs to the Canadian National now. However it is in Duluth Missabe and Iron Range paint.

Nice shots of BNSF SD9's still running around. I didnt think they still had any.

I'm seeing everything. Now how does that work? If I see the photos, you should see the photos. Hmmm.

My goodness, those are SD-9s. I had no idea they were still around on Class 1 service. Man you just made my day--they even went through the trouble of painting one of them in their new colors.

I am almost glad I didn't see that in person, I might have fallen over just looking at such a beautiful sight.

Thanks for the comments and input and thanks to wcfan, that is what I thought but was not sure. I thouht the 9's were a rare sight too and both trains were rolling along at about 15 mph vs the normal 40+mph.

This is most defanitly a very interesting lash up. I LIKE IT!! Espually , the o so wonderful SD9s there. To top it all off the high nose SD9 is pulling a coal train!! AWSOME. I've never seen one in person. I actully didn't think any class one's had them anymore. I've only seen a couple of Amtrak and Seaboard System GP9s. Well, keep up the good work.

The maroon DM&IR units was built as an SD45T-2. I think only SP had them, although Rio Grande certainly had SD40T-2s. It is probably a rebuild with a 16 cylinder engine, rather than the original 20 cylinder, and might be an SD40M-3 or some classification like that.

The GP30 looks original, but might be a rebuild with GP39-2 electrical gear.

An MP15 leading an SD60 on the main line, too!

Good work there!

Lets see,
A SD40-2T in both Iron Range and BN paint, a Oakway Leasing SD60 in its EMD deom paint, a White faced GP 30 and a high nosed SD9, all in one morning...lucky guy!

Quite the varied collection of power... Lucky catch on the DMIR unit. Those are cool. The white face is great too.

That BN/BNSF locomotive in front of the Oakway unit looks like some variant of the GP15. Besides BN did not have SD40T-2s or SD45T-2s.
