Are there any external differences between the new Tier 4 GEVO's and the Tier 3 version?
Thanks I nadvance
Ira
They are very different locomotives.
The Tier 4 locomotives lack the air to air intercooler, the box just forward of the radiator on ES44s but instead have a much larger radiator made up of two angled panels in a roof like shape.
The hood above the engine is higher, above the radiator to allow for the diesel particulate filter.
This assumes that the test units are representative of the production locomotives, of course.
Once you've seen the two versions and compared them there should be no difficulty in telling them apart.

Thanks M636C. Sometimes the production models do not look like the prototypes, bur I can understand the differences given the Tier 4 requirements. I am anxious to see the Tier 4 production models.
There appears to have been some hood modification to one of the blue testbeds, so the production units still may differ.

You can compare it with the new Tier III BNSF unit, and GECX 2012.
