Anything is possible for any given individual, but as a general rule, I don’t see railroaders, railfans, or even taggers doing this.  This has the mark of deep psychosis coupled with intricate knowledge of freight trains.  I would say that the practice, personality, and opportunity of the FTRA fit this behavior like a glove.       It would almost be a sort of super malicious tagging, but instead of defacing with spray-paint or leaving your moniker on freight cars, they leave malicious booby traps.  It would be the perfect brand for someone who fancies himself as being really evil.
