Has anyone heard any recent news on 614 other than the possible move to the Reading & Northern for storage?

I don't think it was sold,no one could come close to the reserve.(Think it was 2million)

According to the C&O Historical Magazine #614 is now owned by Andrew J. Miller and the Reading & Northern Railroad. They also have Ex-Reading T-1 #2102 and Ex-Gulf, Mobile & Ohio 4-6-2 #425.

Does the magazine say when she was purchased? I know that Miller & the Reading Northern made an attempt to purchase 614 last year, but it fell through. I forget where I heard about the move to the RN. Maybe Railpace.

No exact date. "As this magazine went to press in late January 2002, news arrived that No. 614 had found a new home in northeastern Pennsylvania,under the ownership of Andrew J. Miller and his Reading & Northern Railroad."

It's Muller, or Mueller - not Miller. When I first read that I knew something was wrong about it, but it took awhile for me to remember the right name. I have checked other steam interest and preservation sites and have seen nothing on a final sale, only that that reserve price was not met, again. One can only hope that it does not meet the fate that almost awaited it the last time it went to auction. The high, but not high enough, bidder was a shopping center developer in Oklahoma that wanted to stuff and mount her in front of one of his malls! A fate only slightly better than outright scrapping.

According to www.chessie614.com, the former website of Iron Horse Enterprises, there was to be another auction on March 7'th. No news on the R&N website though.

I am the one guilty of spreading the rumor that #614 would be going to the R&N based on what I had read in the C&OHS mag. I got a note from Tom Dixon in reply to my question for verification about this. He said that the editor did try to "fact check" about this but the secretary would NOT put him through to the owner. He also had heard that the deal had fallen through. Sorry to start a rumor but I was quoting what I thought at the time was a reliable source. I, like you would like to know where the 614 is going. I checked and my wife said we don't have that much expendable income .

Well, if it is going to the R&N it probably won't run anytime soon. As far as I know the 2102 and the 425 haven't been under steam in several years. They're tucked away in an engine house away from the public eye.
