UP In Lousiana
Posted by Northtowne on Saturday, October 11, 2014 9:44 PM

I was kinda surprised that the train/truck collision in West Monroe on 10/5/14 was a UP line. How far east does this line go? Or does it turn at Monroe toward the South? Does it parallel the KCS Shreveport to Monroe (Meridian Corridor)? Could not find a definitive map on this.

Mer Rouge is on the former MP line from Little Rock to Alexandria, which runs south from Monroe.

Northtowne:

You might enjoy the following linked site:

http://www.laoperationlifesaver.org/map.aspx

It is for Operation Lifesaver of Louisiana, and by manipulating your cursor over the map you can track the various rail lines in Louisiana.  It is a pretty good tool to find out ownership of lines, as well.

P.S.   [ The Shreveport-Meridian Corridor is the East-West 'Meridian Corridor' of the KCS RR. ]

Thanks, samfp.   I've often wondered about some of the rail alignments in the middle of the state.
