It's official, the 4449 will wear her American Freedom Train colors on the sold out trip to Bend, OR on Mar. 23/24. This is likely to be the only run in her Freedom Train colors. Please show your support by purchasing official souveniers, an order form is on www.4449.com, or you can order items from Daylight Sales, a sponcer of this web site! Make sure you put on your order "I support 4449!". Daylight Dave of Daylight Sales is making many new items just for this trip, so wear your patriotic colors while supporting American Heritage!

I hope Trains or Classic Trains does a feature on it - perhaps a history from the 1947-49 train up to this year's one.
Looks very smart!

Do you think that a steam engine (not #4449) should be permenantly painted in AFT colours?

In my opinion, the 4449 wore the red, white, and blue better than the others! Yes, I'm biased.
One item I would love to see restored is the #76 tool car. It's owned by the PNWC/NRHS, and was the tool car used on the 76-77 AFT. It was also used in the 81 Railfair behind 4449. Thus, it's been called "the most photographed RPO in history". It's a "title" that would be hard to argue. Today it sits on a siding next to a warehouse, as there isn't anywhere localy to display this car...yet.
I move that this car be restored back to AFT colors, permenantly, should a display location become availible in the Portland area.

You can see some photos of the 4449 in her AFT colors on my website at http://www.railroadpix.com/rrphotos/Special_Trains/SP_4449_Bend_Trip_March_2002/
There are photos of the Bend trip and some shots of her on the AFT back in 1975. (Yes, '75, though most of the trip was in 1976, portions of it did run the previous year.)
