Autumn at the Moffat Tunnel - 1 IMG
Posted by CopCarSS on Monday, September 22, 2014 9:29 AM

Good morning all,

I wandered up towards the Moffat Tunnel yesterday morning to check out the fall color up that way. Foliage was near peak and it was an awesome day to be up there. I think this shot -- taken from the Rollins Pass Road -- was my favorite of the day:

As always, comments and critiques more than welcome!

Definitely an unusual perspective on the Moffat tunnel.  Even without the color it would be a stunning view.  Out here, we don't see color like that in September or October unless there is a wild fire under it.

You once again find a fresh perspective on a subject that had been done to death and thankfully have shared it with the forum.

The color makes me want to head to Highway 550 south of Ouray again.  (No trains until you get to Silverton but still magnificent views in every direction.)

Thanks, Chuck and Dave!

Chuck, that 550 drive is definitely spectacular. Been several years since I've been down that way. I really need to remedy that soon.

Chris,

Yeah, the first time I did the 550, I think I ran through about 30 feet of Kodachrome 64, mostly because that's about all I had left at that point.

In line with my "cat out of the bag" comment to Ed's recent post, I love your shots of King Julien's subjects near the tunnel picture in your Flikr sequence. Well, those and a lot more.

Edit: went back and looked...12 feet of the total was K25.  (No K10 any more by then, 33 years ago.)
