Spider web alert!!!!
Posted by eolafan on Saturday, August 16, 2014 11:12 AM
ALERT!!! There is a spider just starting to weave a web on the lens of the web cam that will eventually get in the way of our viewing pleasure unless a wind or rain storm clears it away. I saw what looked like dirt on the lens earlier this morning and just now saw the spider himself crawling along across the lens.

Still spinning at 7:23 PM CDT this evening.  Anybody up for a viewing of "Arachnophobia" tonight?

Maybe a younger spider and a case of photo(video) bombing. So sorry about the stupid post, but sometimes I can't help myself.

Don't see the spider but some web still appears to be flapping in the breeze at 3:11 pm CDT.

I just caught a westbound BNSF manifest, and the spider just caught a bug of some sort.

Looks like the web cam has reverted to its internet meaning this morning.  We'll see how it looks this afternoon when sunlight falls directly on the web location.

The late afternoon sun is highlighting a number of raindrop spots on the lens, and yes the web is flapping in the wind, suggesting that the spider may have abandoned it, or became lunch for a bird (or a larger spider).

Keep watching - perhaps a Southern Pacific engine in the black widow paint scheme will pass by.

Funny you should mention that, as I saw what looked like an Espee engine in a consist heading an EB UP train today.  Couldn't tell if it was the heritage unit or some remaining patched engine.  It wasn't a black widow, though.

After all, it is a web cam.

Well, either the overnight rain at Rochelle washed away the growing spider web being built on the webcam lens or somebody kindly got up on a ladder and cleaned it off...whatever happened I'm grateful.

It appears Mr. and / or Mrs. Spider have been busy building another web over the lens on the Rochelle webcam...looks like we need yet another rain storm to wash it away for a clearer view.

It'll be even worse when the spider starts wearing earmuffs and mittens....

Without having seen the new camera, I do wonder if there is anything under the lens that will allow snow to accumulate (besides the roof).  I gotta imagine the designers of such enclosures are smart than that, though...
