JJohnieray, that was train 156. It originates in Roanoke. Left on time at 8:40 AM EST. Noted it had a private dome car on the rear.
Just watched a BNSF EB with a ditch light out, Where does BNSF do maintenace?
It'll probably get taken care of at Eola Yard in Aurora.

MrLynnJust tried opening the webcam. I get the miles and the text at the bottom, but just a black screen. Did someone leave the lens cap on? I'm using Safari on an older MacBook Pro, OS 9.5.3. Has been OK, though the refresh arrow stopped working months ago (have to reload). But what's with the black screen? /Mr Lynn
That may be related to the signal break-up I'm seeing this morning. It's OK until I go to full screen but then I see black strips across the image that jump around. Each "strip" only lasts for a fraction of a second but it seems to be continuous. Probably atmospherics.

Thanks again, Semper, for your tips on getting back to IE-11. The cam is working fine, and I got back a couple of features that were lost with Edge, like double-click to toggle into and out of full screen.

Larry, that's just one of the ways we used to gauge it on our little bump-at-the-center-of-the-world. The other was was which switches we could see down the hill to. When the Tower A operator couldn't see his own switches outside, it was curtains. At night we'd put lighted fusees on the trailing end of the cars to see if we could track them past a known point. Then we could release the next car in that direction.

Sorry for the late response to this. They didn't have have problems with the switch, the DS told them to close up behind them becase he needed track 2 to run trains; usually they they leave it open until they finish their work and return which typically takes 15 - 30 minutes. After they finished their work the stopped clear of the switch and a trainman walked to the switch. He waited until two westbounds passed then opened the switch so they could proceed east.
Watching someone in all black walking around the diamonds .. I do not see a RR vehicle nearby ..

This got me to thinking, has anyone ever seen a number on how many tons of "stuff" are on US or NA rails on a typical day? Not counting the tare weights of the cars and loco's.
Good thing we havw skilled MOW forces to keep the whole thing from sinking into the ground.

I looked at the AAR webpage, and the way they phrase it is, "each day railroads deliver 5 million tons of goods."
So, I guess now I know.
So, 5 million tons out each day must mean five million tons in, but that wouldn't account for the weight of goods in transit.
Looks like it is back to the drawing board.
