Derailments Caused By Emergency Braking?

<p><span style="font-family:verdana,geneva;color:#000000;">That train seemed to stop much faster than trains I have seen go into emergency. I wonder how much air temperature affects brakeshoe friction on the wheels. On ones I have seen at about 40 mph, from the moment the you hear the air dump, it seems to take 10-15 seconds before there is any indication that the train is starting to slow.</span></p> <p><span style="font-family:verdana,geneva;color:#000000;">That CSX train stopped in 15 seconds.</span></p>
