add a train

I have started a christmas village and would like to add an ho train to it. Could someone guide me as to what brand I should be looking for. Something realistic in the 1930's-1940's style passenger train. Do not want junk but I don't top of the line either. Was looking at bachmann?

Darlene, this is the forum about the real thing, not models. But, that said, Bachmann's On30 trains are designed to be used with Department 56 buildings, if that's what you are using for your Christmas village. No one makes 1930-1940's era passenger trains as train sets (the On30 are really about 1900-1920), but you could buy an IHC steam locomotive and Athearn heavyweight passenger cars in HO.
