But is it better than a deadman pedal?  I really don't know the answer, but I know that there is no routine involved with resetting a deadman pedal, so that dangerous element of resetting while half or more asleep does not exist. But the question I can't answer is this: Can an engineer sleep while holding down the deadman pedal?  It seems like it would be possible, but I don't know.
