CSX new colors

As for me, it is a big improvement. I like schemes simple. The old NP was my favoriate with the WP (new image) second. BNSF's looks to gawdy. I like the CN and NS with UP just being ok. What do you think?

It makes it abundantly clear that THE dominating railroad in the whole amalgam is George Washington's Railroad. I anticipate that next they will add "FOR PROGRESS" and a stylized smoke plume under the "CSX". Hays Watkins would be proud. Mike Walsh did start with the C&O.

I definatly agree with simple schemes. About the flashiest scheme that I liked was Chessie system's. I grew up near the Clinchfield in TN and seeing those big black diesels kinda ingrained into me that that was what railroading looked like. Thats also the same reason that I like NS. The black diesels. The new CSX paint looks good. Color reminds me of the C&O. Of the past CSX schemes I also liked the one where the top half of the cab and the top of the long hood were painted blue. Least favorite was the all gray "stealth" paint. I used to go out to photograph them in the summer when the haze and humidity were high and it would make them lokk even worse. So I was glad when the yellow noses started showing up. What I miss is the old Family Lines, Seaboad Sys., and Chessie paint that dominated a lot of my early pictures.

CSX really needs to clean up their R.R. act, concentrate on running like a Class 1 organization before they or any one else worries about what color their equipment should be changed to! I think Basic-Black would be appropriate, to reflect their mode of operation. This may sound a bit negative, but I think you would agree that it is most appropriate...Hommie

Well,The CSX does alot of freight business,I was railfaning back in the fall along the CSX and saw 38 trains in 7 hours.Looks to me they are doing alright.As is the NS.Therefore I can not agree with that statement.Now,I could go into how bad truck service really is.If I did you would not believe me.I deal with truck lines and truckers every day at work.Most of the truckers are a great bunch of guys/gals,you do have afew that are A##H***.I have seen shipments 2-3 days late.Seen loaded trailers set for a week before it was picked up.I will stop right there,I could go on but,will not.

I miss the old Seaboard System, Family Lines and Chessie paint, too. It wouldn't bother me if they repainted the locomotives in the predecessor's paint for the region the locomotives operate in.

I just saw the new paint scheme and what I don't like is the exclusion of the gray from the Seaboard lines. Looks to me like CSX is forgetting its HERITAGE in its choice of COLORS. Obviously, you can tell I'm from Seaboard Country. Oh well, I guess that I'll just have to get my camera out and get the current paint scheme with the SEABOARD GRAY on film and paper, while I still can.

The SEABOARD painted its locomotives Pullman Green with Buff and red stripes. The SEABOARD COAST LINE painted its locomotives black with silver lettering and yellow stripes from the ACL. The gray color came from the LOUISVILLE & NASHVILLE, was adopted by THE FAMILY LINES, and finally used by SEABOARD SYSTEM. Wonder what an AC 6000 would look like in the ACL purple & silver scheme? BTW, the L&N gray was first used at the time of the Civil War centennial and was patterned after the uniform of a Confederate officer. Not PC (and I don't mean Penn Central)these days.
