Acela takes 6h 40 m, so the average speed, including the 11 intermediate stops) is 68.75 mph. <div style="clear:both;"></div> [/quote] Depends on which schedule you are looking at.  My 1953 PRR schedule shows 458.6 miles from Boston to New York.  But Amtrak's current schedule for the Silver Service shows the distance from Boston to Washington as 456 miles, with 231 miles from South Station to New York.  Importantly, the differences are immaterial.  Whether the calculations are made on 458.6 miles or 456 miles or 457 miles the outcome is basically the same.
