On Railpictures.net i just saw an image of Amtraks South West Chief with a lot of Superliners and 5 Amfleets in the consist. Is it normal that Amfleet cars are used on long distance trains like the chief or was this just a special run in august 2004?
thanks,
Michael Kreiser www.modelrailroadworks.de

Amtrak might have been transfering cars, I've seen it happen in the past.

You probably saw part of the consist for Kerry's train going back east where the cars belong or a coast shuttle back to Beech Grove (Indy.)....#3 and #4 normally do not have Amfleets in the consist.

Two or three times in the past few months Amtrak has run one amfleet car between the baggage car and the transition crew dorm. When this car is on #4
it has been the Albuquerque coach.I'm sure passengers are less than thrilled when this happens[:(!].

It was part of the Kerry Special. Locomotive is pulling the train. If you look closely at the railpictures.net photo, between the amfleets and superliners is private c ar 300, looks like it is still pointed west.
