Railroads on TV

The History Channel used to run a 1-hour show that was part of a series on Railroading every Monday night at 9 PM central a few years back. Is The History Channel or any other station running any railroad programming now that anyone is aware of? I really enjoyed that series and haven't really seen anything like it since...

PBS had a show called tracks ahead but im not sure what area's if any they still air it. discovery and TLC sometimes do a show about wrecks/derailments from time to time but i belive that is about the extent of railroad related programs on the air now adays.

Discovery channel had a pretty good one on last nite that covered the Amtrak wreck when the train went off the bridge into the bayou after the tow barge hit the bridge in dense fog back in 1993. Only caught bits and pieces of the show but they had some good footage and in depth examination of what happened and why.

I've seen that one before about the Amtrak wreck. Pretty interesting stuff. Also saw one 2 weeks ago on TLC about the wreck at Cajon Pass several years ago that severed an underground petroleum main and caused the huge fire there the day after the derailment. I remember the show on the History Channel was called Trains Unlimited, and I saw on their website that you can by episodes for a price. I was just curious if anything like that was out there now. But it doesn't look like it...

Kalmbach just announced that a new season of Tracks Ahead is coming up on PBS. Check the home page of trains.com; the first show is Feb 2 in Milwaukee, no dates listed for anywhere else.

Pentrex has the "Trains Unlimited" series available. A 4 tape boxed set is available for $39.95, and additional episodes (24 total) are available for $14.95 each. I don't know how this compares with the History Channel's web site prices. Hope this helps. Ron H.

This was posted before but if you can get RFD-TV channnel 9409 they run hopewell videos.they have done trains from N&W Js sp daylights indianaharbor belt operations and other types of trains and locations around the world.6 pm eastern on Mondays.

I used to watch this show and tape every episode on PBS Detroit, but now it isn't on anymore and Detroit's the only PBS station we get. Also, on Tuesday night of last week there was a two-hour special on PBS called "Great Scenic Railway Journeys" that visited various scenic/tourist railroads in the US. Did anybody else see it?

We're still behind other places for having trains on TV. Germany has an entire TV station devoted to trains (Bahn TV)! Why can't we have one, too?

The Aurora, IL public access cable channel has been airing a show called "Trackside" for quite a few years now, and it caters to Chicago area railroading in general with some features on other areas (there was once an episode on British railroads). It is a good show with two weekly parts, one on a general interest topic (such as a recent one on UP3985) and then a shorter segment on a Chicago or Midwest area Hot-Spot. Don't know if this show is distributed beyond the Chicago area, but will try and find out. Jim in Aurora, IL

I watched a show the other night on Discovery Health about the BNSF-Metrolink wreck n 2002 when the freight rear ended the commuter train, buckled the last car, and killed 2 people and, it also showed the security cam of the freight acually hitting the metrolink :( ....eww.
