I read a while back that the CP(SOO) was returning the first batch of SD60's to the leasers that they got and just the other day the UP(CNW) was returning their first SD60's. The question is why? I thought the SD60 was a great machine. I don't see the C40-8's going back so what gives? Why keeping the GE's and dumping the EMD's?

Yes the SD60 is a pretty good locomotive. I think the cnw did burn them up in coal service. but the reason why they are being returned is because there 10 year lease is up. Also UP is taking delivery of all these new locomotives they want to make room for them so the SD60 is really no longer needed.

Now I really know I'm getting much older, when SD60's become second hand "used" locomotives on a used "car" lot! Oh, my aching back. Jim, Aurora, IL
