Can't speak to Ausies, but UP tried this with the No 80 (later renumbered 8080) in 1960s. <br />Good writeup of this coal-burning gas-turbine-electric loco by Thos. R. Lee in The Streamliner, Vol. 16, No. 4, pp. 12-34. Many color photos, too. <br />Hank Morris
