Hi this is really a model question , but I thought I'd ask here.
Hi, I'm superdetailing an Athearn CSX Dash 9 and I noticed a small white box on top of the cab. It is toward the rear of the cab and I believe it is an AC unit but just want to make sure before I go ahead.
Thanks

This little white box is a housing for DPU antennas. They control the locomotives on the rear of CSX coal trains. UP and BNSF use'em too.

Just to eliminate one possibility, go here:
http://www.fra.dot.gov/content3.asp?p=917
scroll down to the bottom and look at the "Analysis of antennas for DGPS on locomotives". I think this may be what you mean... and the report has some pretty clear pictures of the different designs of enclosure involved. (You will be modeling this stuff anyway when you superdetail, so whether or not 'this is it', you won't be wasting effort...)
I encourage you to model the conical-top antenna rather than the cylindrical one, as it IS over 10dB better...
