Motor Car Rides - Chillicothe, IL Corn Fest 2004
Posted by jjlamkin on Tuesday, August 3, 2004 12:48 PM
Just thought I would post some photos from last weekend at the Chillicothe, IL Corn Fest Motor Car rides. Motor Car operators from Wisconsin and Illinois gave 1 hour rides on their Motor Cars last weekend July 31, 2004. Trackage rights were compliments of Iowa Interstate Railroad (IAIS) who I would like to give great THANKS for allowing the event. For a non-railroad employee this was a rare treat!!!

Humph!

I didn't know about this and I'm not all that far away, over in Peru, IL.
Sorry I missed it.

Paul,
Yes, they did not advertise it very much. According to Rick Harper from the Monticello Railroad museum, one of the Motor Car operators, this was not a solid event until just after Galesburg Railroad Days, that is the end of June. I think they were afraid IAIS would not give them a track warrant!!

Oh man....I remember those from my youth.

Too bad I didnt get any photos back then. What a great sound those engines made.

Wish I'd known -- I'd love to ride that line sometime, either north or south of the depot. The ideal would be to go from Bureau Jct all the way down to Peoria. That is such an interesting line -- the Route of the Peoria Rocket. For those who do not know the area, the depot by the way is a preserved Rock Island depot and there is also a preserved Santa Fe caboose there. A neat little museum. Not too far away is the old Santa Fe depot on its old main line (no longer used for Amtrak once they moved the Chief to former BN rails after the merger), and just west of that is the famous Houlihan's Curve on Edelstein Hill. You can follow that line all the way to Galesburg. There is good railfanning in that area, guaranteed.

Putt,putt,putt,putt,putt,
Man, that one would have been good to know about.
They just had a program on RFDTV,(Trains & Locomotives)
That a club took their motor cars out for a weekend.(Northwest I think)
That should have been interesting.[:)]
