Dash 9 in the funny papers

The culprit: For better or for worse, the crime: Inncaurate data!

Look ath the below strip from the sunday paper. I don't know weither to be hapy that railroads were noticed, or be insulted because of it. And I thought everybody knew thata Dash 9 would never have an EMD prime mover!

I wouldn't worry overly about the cartoonist getting a few things a bit skewed. Most poeple who read comic strips in newspapers wouldn't have noticed the inaccuracies.

I reckon it's overall a good thing that the character "John" has a garden railway. [;)][:)][;)] I've seen a few strips in our local newspaper here in bribsnae, when John was building the railway, and I found them all good. I'm happy that railroads and modelling them is noticed. [:)]

That particular strip gets a lot of readership down here, so here's a chance for railroads to get a good profile where it's carried in newspapers etc.. [:)] [;)] I reckon Lynn Johnston does a good job with "For Better or For Worse" [:)][;)]

So-Send Lynn Johnston a subscription to Train's magazine.

She has a great strip. For all we know, her husband, if he is the garden railroader in her family, may have relayed that explanation from someone who "knows it all".
(Like, who among us have never gotten the facts mixed up".)

I'd like to think that it's also a little bit of an insider for those with the knowledge.

And it is good to see model trains in the paper....Get people interested in the models and the will get interested in the real thing.

....I'm first of all surprised to see "anything" railroad in a comic strip....More pluses than minuses. Bring it on more.....The more exposure, the better.

Yes, the husband of the one who draws this comic is a model railroader. He appeared in Model Railroader a while back. I think he was building an outdoor live steam type (don't remember if he has steam, just using that term for size) that you can ride on.

The whole point of the cartoon was to get the facts mixed up on purpose! It really is an inside joke. The general public doesn't know the difference between a GE or EMD! The cartoonist was poking fun at people who think they know it all, but have their facts wrong.

He's starting the new trend... all railroads will follow with putting EMD engines in thier GE locos.

As I recall from the MR article, Dr Johnston (he really is a dentist) bought a company that manufactures 1"/foot rolling stock, etc. The engines are all D/E, actually running on batteries. He has something like 4000' of track down, and it's in Canada. MC would appreciate what he goes through to keep it in shape.
