I JUST LOVE THE CARBODY, ILL TELL YOU WHAT, IF I SAY IF THE BNSF RAILROAD DOES GET THOSE BIG EMD SD70ACe's, I WILL GO MAD CRAZY(HAPPY)OVER THEM.
I SAW THE GM73 IN OMAHA ON A BNSF TRANSFER AND I REALLY LIKE THEM ALOT.
I MUST HAVE SPENT AL LEAST A HALF A ROLL OF FILM ON THE NEW GM UNIT ALONE. I DO BELIEVE THAT THIS LOCOMOTIVE(EMD SD70ACe)WILL BE THE KING FUTURE POWER![^][:D].

I agree. Why can't they just put new components in an old frame that looks nice (anybody care to join me in hoping for an RSC-4400CW [:)][:D]?!)

See you around the forums,

Hey, it looks like a GE!!!

Our locomotives defintiely have no style, GE or GM. I think it would be nice if one of 'em designs a locomotive that is actually different, attractive, yet easy-to-maintain.

At least they painted it kinda purdy... NOT... [):]

I kind of like it. It looks like it means business and I hope it does well for EMD. [8D]

I like it. It's not a dramatic change which we would be screaming about. The demonstrator paint job doesn't do it justice. Check out the csx yn3 paint job and some of the features stand out more. Over all I like it. Kudos to the designers.
The thing that none of us has touched on is it's actual performance. From all that I have read about it at Trains.com and in different mags, they seem to say that it runs smoothly, emmissions are well below required levels and it runs well out of the gate. I don't know first hand, since I'm not an engineer but I'm telling you what I have read.

It is in the GP-7 tradition. Remember EMD's Dillworth said: "The GP-7 is deliverately ugly so no-one will put it at the head of a streamliner and we'll still be able to sell E-units." But he was proved wrong. GP-7's hauled lots of passenger trains, and nobody really thought it was ugly. And it was a great locomotive for its time.

When it comes to a locomotive design Looks are second to all if it
cannot do what the Railroad demands of it.CP Rail /CAR ran the RS-23,s
in thier transfers ect and they were not pretty but the little bulldogs made
bigger units look like wimps.but why the EMD/GE look?

Think of the Reagan family in
your prayers.

to me it looks like it came out of TrainSim. It would look better with a head light on the nose and a not so Hugemongus radiatior wing. and drop the windows down like the SD75. But im worried...Will EMD make anymore GP units??

Locomotives are all about function....how cheaply can the most tonnage be moved at an acceptable level of speed. Looks are what ends up after the functions are served.

Agree. Its function that gets the job done, not looks.[:)]

This train is very different, but it is not that unique they should model new trains after the old ones more often.

I hope the SD70ACe will make EMD pull back into the lead. I saw a UP "ACe" in Rochelle the other day........all I can say is wow.........it looks like a beast.
I love the smell of ALCo smoke in the Morning. "Long live the 251!!!" I miss the GBW and my favorite uncle is Uncle Pete. Uncle Pete eats Space Noodles for breakfast.

They look pretty good with wings and a flag. Caught these up in Cheyenne a few weeks back while storm chasing:

Hmm. looks just like every other diesel produce in the last 30 years, completely indistinguishable from every other diesel electric locomotive made in North America. Where is the imagination? where are the designers? Where is the rule that says all locos must look exactly the same for decade after decade? why not a flat front cab/? why not put the cab in the middle, the back, smaller cab units? 1/2 cab units? why not make it round instead of square, maybe aerodynamic? the possibilities are endless IF they improve the end result ,and probably better than the present designs, but once an idea is ensconced nothing can move it, I guess it's back to the "but that's the way we always did it"

EMD is already in the hole vs. the GE Evolution. A close friend of mine who works for GE told me that Eire now has 1800 Evolutions on back order and is expected to hit over 2000 units by the end of summer.

He also said most of the Evolution orders are to replace existing EMD units, and not to update existing GE's. Looks like EMD may become a true minority builder.

That doesn't mean they couldn't try to make it attractive. All it takes is vision.

No doubt the GEVOs are to replace existing EMD units. Think SD40-2s here. Then think about it, the contemporary GE units to the SD40-2s were the U30C and the C30-7 and those units were replace some time ago. The next units to fall will be the GE Dash 8 series, the EMD SD70s will outlast them for sure.

Perhaps now that the loco business has been spun off from the automobile business, BNSF will get over it's snit with GM and give the new company's product a chance.
