Harzquerbahn (Germany) Issue? Help!
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, June 7, 2004 2:14 AM
Calling TRAINS reference gurus...could someone tell me
what issue(s) did TRAINS cover the Harzerschmalspurbahnen
railway in Central (formerly East) Germany?

This line is currently steam operated using 2-10-2 German
steamers and some museum loks. Please if anyone could
let me know what issues these appeared in TRAINS and perhaps
if these issues are still available somewhere, that would be great!

Cheers!

First, check the Magazine Indexes provided on the Trains.com Web Page. If the worst comes to worst, download the Trains indexes since 1990 or so and read through them.

There have been articles in the English magazine "Continental Modeller" as well. This is now distributed by Kalmbach, but I don't know if they handle back issues.

There is an excellent book on the 2-10-2T class 99-22 published by Eisenbahn Kurier. This is EK-Themen 18 "Brockenlok 99-22" published 1995. It has excellent colour photos of the line. It is in German, of course, but fairly useful if you are interested in the line. Some knowledge of German would be useful in understanding the line anyway.

I've visited the line twice in 1991 and in 1992 , and the EK book covers it well even though it is supposed to about the locomotives.
