help finding train for film shoot

I apologize in advance to anyone who feels this message is not suited for this forum--but i thought i would give it a shot anyway.

I am producing a RIT senior thesis film in rochester,
new york which involves a scene that takes place in a
modern train (or at least one that can pass as
modern). The train would not have to be moving for the
scene-in fact it would be best if it were stationary.

Also, the train would be needed sometime early
December for two evenings if possible.


The director of the project, Randall Good, is a young
and up and coming filmmaker as well as award winning,
whose last film was shown at many film festivals
across the country. This current film would potentialy
garner much circulation and success.

I would sincerely appreciate any information you could
provide that would help to find a train.

Tamara, you do not say what part of a traion you wi***o use, which, of course, would depend on what roles the actors were playing. Are you looking to shoot a scene in a passenger car? if so, what kind, coach, sleeper, diner, lounge (bar car), or observation car? There is a railroad museum in the Rochester area that might be able to help you. It has an electric interurban car that would pass for a commuter coach for interior filming. Or are you looking to film in a locomotive cab (what kind, steam or Diesel?) or a caboose?

You need to look at the script closely and determine just what you need and then make a specific inquiry.

Tamara: Welcome! Suggest you get in touch with the Rochester NY Chapter, National Railway Historical Society, Inc. through Mr. Christopher R. Hauf, 28 Candlewood Road, Pittsford, NY 14534-4609. Phone: [phone], or on the web at www.rochnrhs.org/ They own a group of stainless steel coaches (built post-World War II but before Amtrak) formerly owned by the New York Central Railroad which ran through Rochester. My guess would be that they would be able to permit use of a coach for your production. If you need dining, lounge, or sleeping cars, they probably know where available equipment is located. Their latest annual report in NRHS Bulletin states that their chapter owns a group of ex-New York Central R.R. coaches which are serviceable and should meet your needs. They'll also undoubtedly know the whereabouts of dining or sleeping cars which could meet your needs if needed. Also, Utica & Mohawk Valley Chapter's phone number is 315-797-2430, and Central New York Chapter (Syracuse) can be reached through 607-844-3005.
