Yes, the TGV roadbed costs more to build, but in the long run its cheaper to maintain... Diesels are heavier, much heavier, than an electric locomotive....The cars the Cascades trains use are of lighter weight than the Superliner cars Amtrak uses..... <br /> <br />What tears up the highways, trucks or automobiles. I think you are seeing the picture. Now, if only we could keep the heavy freight traffic off the high speed lines.....(the high speed track would last longer).....
