Tugboat Tony

The pair are officially going to be in Des Moines for the CNWHS conv.  then to storage.  I'm personally very torn about this... I grew up and started railroading with all the CNW, so I hate to see the last of them gone... but I get a personal joy out of snuffing the fire and capping a stack on a GE locomotive.

Once their parked the C44-9s will be late to come out of storage. very very late!

Do you or does anyone know exactly where in Des Moines they will be on display during the convention (5/14-5/17)?  I tried checking the CNWHS website but did not find any details.

I found this info (below message) posted in the upcoming events section on this site! I would like to know the schedule times for both of these excursion trains (May 15/16th), since I will be traveling from Michigan to photograph them. I am wondering if both of these excursions will use the CNW units as power. I'm going to e-mail the C&NWHS to hopefully get more details! I want to make sure to catch these CNW units before they are gone. It is good that Union Pacific is bringing them out for this event! If anyone has more info on this event, please post.

According to postings on the CNW Newsgroup the trips will be leaving between 8am-9am on both days.  It doesn't sound like there is much public access to the Kate Shelley bridge area for those that are not riding the train.  Also I don't believe that the CNW units will be pulling the train on the Iowa Interstate, but I could be wrong.  Didn't see any mention of power for the that train.

Here is the reply I got from the C&NWHS:

"Both trips are scheduled to depart at 0900, but may change.Times are not set in stone. For the Saturday trip we should depart Atlantic around 1300 and arrive back in DM around 1630.  The Atlantic trip will NOT have the C&NW locos. There are many locations along the route to photograph the train.  It depends on your style and what you want for background."

So I guess that the CNW locos will only be on the Friday trip to Boone. That is a one way trip, so I wonder where the equipment will go from there? Does anyone know if both trips will use the same passenger cars? I'm also wondering if the CNW locos will go back to Des Moines or head elsewhere.

The impression I get from various railfan lists is that the UP is supplying cars (and the two CNW engines) for the trip on their line.  The IAIS is supplying the cars and engines for the trip on their line.

When the UP trip is done, supposedly the cars will depart Boone for Council Bluffs.  I don't know if the CNW engines will take the cars west, but I'd guess they would.

If you are interested in getting right smack up to the leads of the KS bridge, then you're correct that there's no public access.  However, there is a small bridge across the river just north with unobstructed views of the KS itself, accessable from the Boone side (access from the west side has been cut off due to construction of the new bridge)

Have pics of them switching the Chrysler plant last fall in Belvedere, IL. Just can't figure out how to get the pics up on this site. Any help please?

Would anyone have updates on where these CNW engines would be today? Are they to be heading somewhere, or have they already been sent to storage? It would be nice to see them one LAST time!
