The Lake Shore Limited & the Great Lakes snowbelt....brrr!

Hi everyone. Just read absorbing article "Rolling Popsicles" in April 04 edition of Trains Mag. It described the very cold conditions of the lines running the Great Lakes belt in Winter.

Would other passenger services in the northern U.S. have similar problems to the Lake Shore limited e.g. the north West?

Do freight trains in these areas have a lesser problem with ice build up?

Thought I would ask those who are in the areas...[;)]

Thanks crew! [:)]

Amtrak had to winterize their chicago trains in 1999 (I think) they wrapped plastic wrap around the diaphrams. Freights used to lock up sometimes because of ice but are much better these days...of course...it could be the climate.
