Humble Pie and Crow
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, March 28, 2004 12:41 PM
Yes folks Jim is eating Humble Pie and Crow today. [:(] [V]

After making such comments that UP RR didn't have the class to purchase a good sounding horn I have learned firsthand the truth. THEY HAVE AND DO.

Today I heard a good sounding horn and since I was going to make a trip to the store I made a sidetrip to the tracks to see what I thought was going to be a Southern Pacific unit leading a UP train westbound. When I arrived I found a spot to see the tracks and train. Low and behold the train comes by. Guess what? The lead engine was not a S P engine but a UP engine. [B)] [:0]

I had to pinch myself because this JUST had to be a dream. [8D] It wasn't a dream. The lead engine was UP 4373 which is an SD70M. I still can't believe it. I was SURE this was going to be a Southern Pacific unit or another railroads engine just being used by UP. I was wrong. [:(]

Now from the ground view I had I couldn't see the horn. Does anyone know what horn these units have? It does sound much better than the horn on the GE units pulling UP coal trains.

BTW, Lunch is at 1 and supper will be at 5. Come join me for my crow eating party. [dinner]

I was sure what I was hearing was an S P unit. [:)]

Didn't turn out that way though. [:(]

I am very curious now what horn is on that unit and if the other units in the group got the same horns?

I know there has to be more than just one unit with a decent sounding horn. I am really going to be listening now. [:p]

[:)] If it's any help crew, I rememebr one of last year's issue of Trains Mag had a question from a reader about loco horns.

There was a considerable reply to that query, and might be worth reading? I just can't remember the month, but it wasn't that long ago...[:I]

I thought we did away with Jim Crow laws! They were humiliating, not humble. Just tooting your horn Jim! You've now been tag teamed by Kevin and I [:D] I don't know of any crews that would make the effort to change the horns, so maybe the UP has made an improvement. By the way Kevin, Baltimore's football team is the "Ravens." We eat frog legs too.........

Rick, I was just sure that it was Jim crow (eating) laws. In which case, Jim, new menu time!

Sorry, won't be over for munchies.
