Sou Boxcar Question

I happened to notice Southern boxcar number 832 and have some questions. First off what is the deal with such a low number? I am also curious about it due to its odd location on a little used interchnange track from CSX to a NS spur that is now leased. I could barely make out the stenceling that CSX has done some maintence on this car. The entire paint scheme is extremly faded. Between its location, its low number, and its mechincal condition I have grown kind of curious as to what the story is on this car.

Due to its location, I couldn't get any pictures worth posting. I was lucky enough that the leaves on the trees have not fully come out. So does anybody have the means to find out at least who owns this car, and is it still in regular service?

Dough,, a couple questions to maybe answer your question. Did the car have SOU reporting marks? Also did CSX do the repairs in place, or somewhere else? The low number is not all that uncommon anymore. Hope I can help.

The Southern used these low numbers for its insulated box cars. That's still a valid number, operated by NS...SOU series 650-899 was built in 1977. I just encountered an ex-SOU insulated box car now numbered BR 60000 (for the Bradford Industrial Railroad). Its old number was something in SOU series 100-299, which were built in 1979.

Thanks for the replys. The CSX marks were for the standard Lub/Inspection which was done 11/00.

I noticed SOU 585563 and SOU 785 on another siding. I guess that they were all together. Kind of wierd to see it stuffed on the end of a little used siding. Of course now it is blocked in by a pair of BNSF and a pair of UP locos. Strange for a CSX line...[;)]
