Having visited both Greenfield Village and the adjacent Henry Ford Museum many times, I highly recommend a visit. It is possible to do both in a day, but that's not doing either justice. Several of my early visits were school field trips.

Besides the train at the village, you can get up close and personal with a C&O Allegheny (and others) in the Museum. I'm not sure which, but there is a rail line running past the property as well.

For those whose interest isn't piqued, Greenfield Village is made up of historic buildings. The ACTUAL historic buildings. Want to see what Edison's Menlo Park lab looked like? It's there, along with the trash pit. Henry Ford Museum has displays ranging from agricultural, to automotive, to trains, and much more. So if the family is reluctant to go on another trainwatching trip, rest assured, there is plenty for everyone.

If you are headed to the Detroit area, or within a commute of the Detroit area, make this part of your plans. You won't regret it.
