"CPR" - Spans the World
CP had a pretty impressive steamship line along with the railway. I recall reading about a silk shipment originating in China (1930's? or earlier) that was loaded on a CPR steamship in Hong Kong [4:-)] , sailed across the Pacific, transloaded onto CPR train in Vancouver BC, across Canada, loaded onto another CPR steamship [oX)] in Halifax, NS which then sailed to Great Britain. Ahh, them were the days.

In retrospect it may have shipped from Montreal, as CPR went to Saint John, NB on its own trackage and thence by ferry to Digby NS, and from there to Windsor Junction and then shared trackage rights with CN into Halifax. Hmmmm? Oh well, it was a cool trip anyway!
