A Virginia railfan is headed west for ten days in August and would like to take in some BNSF or UP action. Primarly visiting San Diego but my five year old son and I will set aside a day to travel if the action is good.

You gotta go to Cajon Pass if you have a day. It is about 2 hrs drive from San Diego, all Freeway. Can send info if interested.

Go to the following web site http://cajonpass.webjump.com/ They will have a ton of info on the pass. If you can find Interstate 15 while here, take it North and you will run into Cajon Pass. I'd start at Devore, there is an exit for it.Follow the info on the web site and you can't go wrong. I wouldn't take the rental car too far off road, but most can be seen from the roads around the pass.
