Penn station is located on Manhattan island, east of the Hudson river and west of the East river. Grand Central station is north of Penn station in Mid-town Manhattan. The station begins at about 42nd St and is aligned South-North. The tracks run underground, to the northern tip of Manhattan island where the tracks split. Some tracks go NE towards Conn. and New England, other tracks go straight north along the banks of the Hudson River. The Hell Gate Bridge brings trains from New England areas into Sunnyside yard in Queens, NY and then go through tunnels to Penn Station in NYC
