Slic [:p]

A slug has no engine. If it has an engine it is a B unit. A slug is designed to use the extra power that is generated by a host engine. At low speed the powered engine produces more electrical power than it can use. The slug uses this extra electrical power to provide additional traction to start the train moving. The slug will cut out at something like 15 to 20 miles an hours. As the train gains speed it needs the power once provided to the slug, therefore the slug has no power, and will produce no more traction until the train once again feeds power to the slug.
