<p>OK, I'm into all those things including WWI battleships (<em>Castles of Steel, </em>Robert Massie, could I recommend?)</p><p>I prefer John B. McCall for early diesel history. Even thought McCall writes only from the perspective of the Santa Fe only, he has hands-on insights that are difficult to find in "official" versions of history -- that, and the buyer of a product always has a different view than the seller! <span class="smiley">[;)]</span> </p><p>S.
