3751 Restoration

A couple of questions about the restoration of Santa Fe steam locomotive 3751. How long did it take to restore the locomotive and how did they do it?

While I'm at it.... How many of you are fans of the 3751 and how many have seen it in action? Once I almost saw it but our timing for getting to the tracks was a little bit too late. It was a total let-down![|(][#oops]

Anxious to here about the restoration.

I'm a fan of #3751 and saw it when it breezed through here in 1993.

I don't know much about the restoration. The DVD or VHS "Steam To The Grand Canyon: 3751 NRHS Convetnion Special" is a good video, done by www.pentrex.com . They make mention of the restoration but don't go into great detail.

The best video of 3751's restoration can be found on "Santa Fe 3751 Return to Steam" on VHS by Pentrex. It features the 1986 move from its resting place in a San Bernadino park to Fontana, the break-in runs, and the recreation of the California Limited in 1992. It is truly a great video.

ditto Russell's remarks.....Add San Bernardino "A" yard in the now demolished shops and LA's Redondo Roundhouse to the places that the engine called home. 3751 on welded rail does not make much noise at speec (the FP-45 behind the tenders made more noise), but certainly impressive.
