Happy Holidays...I think

[:(]As all of us railroaders know and what the public doesn't know (& don't really care to know), is some one has to work during the holidays; any holiday or the trains don't move. I'm no exception to this! Although, I've been estranged from my wife and children for a long while now, there's been very few times in my life, our lives, that I can remember spending with them. I spent nine years in the U. S. Army, in Kansas and Virginia and I've spent numerous holidays 'on duty' or a surpise mission would come up...go figure[V]. After which, I started here at Amtrak, and yes I've worked many holidays. The only reward that I can see for working these days when the majority of the public is enjoying the time off, is the extra pay that comes from working them![;)] I've worked a different shift and schedule a few years ago, that had the holidays as assigned days off.
Boy was I loving that!![:D] But now my shift and schedule are back to where I have to work the holidays. Since, all my children are grown, except one (& he lives with his mother in Ohio), I have no real reason for being off on the holidays
anyway.[|)] Besides, my union representative has already hooked me up with overtime on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. So, I figure with the extra money I could make from those two days, I can give some extra to my ex for herself and my son.[^] But, I just want to say, for all of you (us) who have to work the coming holidays, fear not, for you (we) are loved and blessed by a higher power that any human can bestow upon any of us...SO REJOICE!![:D] If you get the time to spend with loved ones this holiday season...BE THANKFUL and let them know how much you love and appreciate them!![^]

Hey Glenn -- I have always admired those who, like you worked on the Holidays (especially Christmas) and kept things going for the rest of us. God Bless you, and your whole family, wherever they may be!

Glenn, Without willing employees like you, the railroads would fall apart (a lot faster than they are right now), So heres a thank you from a railfan, and have a merry Christmas.

I know what its like. Mr retail wanting to try to make the almighty $$$.Thats why I got out of retail.I am working tonight but will be able to spend the holidays with friends and family. Lets remember the troops that cant be home too.

Hi Glenn,
After 7 years railroading, this is the first holiday, birthday ect I happen to be lucky enough to have as a assigned day off.
So I know where you are coming from, and belive me, the carriers dont know how good they have it!
Along with cops, firefighters, EMT and paramedics, and all the US Armed Services, not to mention the Coasties, the general public owns us all a lot more than they know.
And they would be surprised to find how willing we are to perform this service.
So for you, and all the other railroaders stuck out Christmas,

I have been part of the work force since 1978 and my jobs have centered around the service to others and I have spent many a holiday or special event away from those who I cared about.

And yes I have paid a heavy toll for the things that I missed, but the feeling of accomplishment when your work has helped others is something to feel good about.

Keep a good thought because believe it or not, "they" do appreciate our services on the holidays.
