Exactly what I built for my first step. 6'x20' with 2"x4"s and 3/4" plywood. Basically, a floor about 3ft over the floor. Tons of storage space below, and strudy enough to support people working on the two layouts. The layout above will use alot of OLD 2x4s gathered from various undisclosed locations and most likely half inch plywood. They may be overkill, but they're on hand. Strong? Yeah, the "table" might as well be a granite outcropping.
I will not use them for a house, I will not use them for a mouse. Not on a box, not with a fox. Not in the rain, not for my trains. On the other hand, Sam-I-Am has convinced me to eat Green Eggs and Ham.
I was avoiding mentioning the post about flying trains launched from one of Ken's 0-5-0 switchers...but if we're looking for old layout pics, I'll go look for the Plywood Atlantic and the pics of my new space.
I lived in Queens a block away from Fresh Pond Yard. My father in law gets the NYTimes where I spotted the article on Curtis Sliwa and his son. We go every year to Strasburg. We were members of the Danbury railway museum for about three months before we moved from CT to PA, got pregnant, lost a brother in law, all in one week. All those rail trips you describe, well, from the article, the Sliwa boys have probably taken many of them already. My minute younger son can take up residency at the Toy Train
There are buyers who are just plain old born to complain. Having suffered though many in my years mangling the shady o'rack and a camera shop, these chronic complainers will invent problems if there isn't one to exaggerate about. Sellers are waiting for the final shoe to drop before adding their comments.
Yes. Lionel HO from 1966. M&StL set. Engine runs well, caboose survived several inernational headline worthy (in scale) accidents. Of all my trains, I've lost two cheap diesels to vicious sisters messing with my stuff, a flatcar that held a boat which vanished, and an annoying little steam engine that I never liked. Otherwise, I've even got some of the original Lionel branded sectional rack pieces, the powerpack, buildings(the church steeple warped a bit) and one more thing. My father's
I remember way back when you had a few too many frustrations, but you came here and aired them out. So many people give up when they should simply seek out advice from people with experience. That applies to most of life if not all. Sadly, my layout is still on hold due to the insanity of the economy. Love how your layout grew in more than just size. Great pictures.
I know, this might fit better in the kids and trains section, but it doesn't look very active over there. Curtis Sliwa, that Gardian Angel founder, was written up in the NY Times regarding his weekly subway outing with his five year old son. Sorry, I'm not sure if getting a link to it was allowable, but if the Times online has it, if you're interested I thought I'd toss it in the mix. My twins love trains too, but we can't go riding all over NYC every week.
One of my all time favorite model photos.
Nice video Gino. My guys turned three two weeks ago. They're now enrolled in gymnastics and Tai Kwan Do courtesy Grandma. They got a big Thomas table and roundhouse set and more trains. They're parking the toy cars side by side like a parking lot and trains always lined up on the track. Realism slowly creeping into the fun. A dancing Wall-E toy MUST be replaced atop the roundhouse at night and Sir Topham Hat MUST be brought to all derailments to supervise the cleanup.
