The issue I had with the editorial which began all this hand wringing, was that it painted a wistful opinion in an enormous broad strokes using opaque generalities as critical assumptions. The responses in this thread are evidence of this fact. No one in his right mind thinks anyone is going to flip a switch and all lines are instantaneously electrified. Frankly, I don't give a fig what Europe is or isn't doing as a measuring stick, as any comparison is like fitting a round peg into a square
It's amazing to me that how much preservation occurs in spite of the economy, as well as the existance of this little remarked upon cog road.. http://quincymine.com/Summer-Newsletter-2009.pdf

I like this quote on their blog; "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. " h ttp://wprrsteam.blogspot.com/2009/11/fall-2009-workweek-report.html
One of the original cars, the electric trolleys, that ran between Aurora and Elgin until 1935 is finally returning to the Fox Valley. [It's] coming home," said Ralph Taylor of the Fox River Trolley Museum. http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/local&id=7098437
If the economic challenges for railroad museums were not enough..I hope if and when these sociopaths not if,...but when they are collared,, they are handed a hammer, nails, a brush, and some buckets of paint..in addition to mommy and daddy making suitable reparations.. What's needed next for outdoor displays..concertina wire? One wonders what sort, if any, of security systems non profit museums have. Another expense, but one wonders if they would receive a lowered insurance premium in return
V.S... If this trend continues, we may be able to have a parade of living history in steam much like our friends in England enjoy. While perhaps not a near term possibility, at least we are approaching a reasonable feasibility. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbFn6tQF-Go I would be interested in what examples our fellow posters think should be added to this list of American motive power. I say American for practical reasons, but I would love to see the Red Devil included..the shame is that non articulated

What is the gauge of this track, is it one compatible to others or is it a unique one? Inquiring minds want to know (me) Thanks for any clarifications offered in advance.
To parse whether the first American steam locomotive was a model of efficiency is something only a infinitesimally minuscule portion of the population ruminates over. Does the Jefferson memorial have an efficient roofing system? To bring living history to the young, as opposed to the perverse strategy Moe Larry and Curly have designed over in Green Bay that will squelch the 261,one of a handful of operable nationally historic locomotives, is an admirable quest, regardless if it hauled one potato
